PA Route 5 Alliance Announces $100k DCED Grant for Fagade Program in Pocono Mountains

The Pennsylvania Route 6 Alliance has secured a $100,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to fund a facade improvement program in the Pocono Mountains area. This initiative aims to enhance storefronts and other projects for local businesses. With support from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), the program will be implemented in Wayne and Pike counties this year.

The program, named PA Route 6 Facade Program, provides matching funds to business owners for facade improvements. Previous iterations of the program have successfully enhanced businesses in various regions across Pennsylvania, resulting in significant economic impact. The current grant is expected to benefit 20-25 businesses in Wayne and Pike counties.

Community involvement is emphasized, with public information meetings scheduled to explain grant procedures and guidelines. Eligible improvements include exterior paint, signage, windows, and canvas awning replacement. Commercial building owners and businesses/nonprofits are encouraged to apply, with recipients required to match the grant amount.

The Keystone Communities Program, which supports local initiatives for neighborhood and community development, facilitates this program. All funds stay local, stimulating the economy through local employment and business engagement. Interested parties can attend public meetings or register online for more information and participation.

The PA Route 6 Alliance, established in 2003, manages the Route 6 Heritage Corridor and implements various community development programs along the corridor. The PA Route 6 Heritage Communities program, funded by the PA Heritage Area Program under the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, is part of the Alliance's efforts to promote heritage and economic development in the region.
